The Trialware Professional Association (TPA) was formed to foster a professional image of the trial software industry.

The TPA will actively attempt to distance itself and its members' software from negative aspects of the "shareware" concept, while promoting the value of alternative trial software concepts. The term "shareware" is old-fashioned and non-descriptive. This leads to misconceptions of trial software such as that trial software is free software or that it is acceptable to pirate trialware by freely sharing the full registered versions with others.

TPA members are expected to subscribe to a code of conduct.

The TPA Mission Statement

• To encourage a high degree of professionalism among the trialware community by setting programming, marketing and support standards for TPA members to follow;
• To promote the positive values and aspects of alternative trial software concepts over the outmoded "shareware" concept for Internet software distribution;
• To provide forums in which TPA members may share ideas and learn from each other;
• To assist members in marketing their software;
• To encourage broader distribution of trialware and demo software through organizations who agree to identify and explain the nature of trialware; and
• To inform users about the concept of trial software and about trialware as a software distribution and marketing method.
